Genelec Unveils SpeakerAngle App for iOS Devices

2024-12-11 06:53:26| World Wide Pro Audio Directory

New app allows users to correctly configure and match the angling of stereo or surround-sound speaker systems NATICK, MA, August 8, 2012 Genelec, the worlds longstanding pioneer in active monitoring, is proud to present the SpeakerAngle app for iOS devices, the first digital tool which allows anyone to correctly set and match the angling ("toe-in") of both stereo and 7.1 surround sound speakers, helping to ensure optimum audio fidelity. Easy and intuitive to use, SpeakerAngle was co-developed by Genelec and AudioApps (a new mobile apps company) and is compatible with iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later and iPhone Touch 4th Generation and later. SpeakerAngle is available now at the iTunes App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/speakerangle/id549033688?ls=1&mt=8), at a price of just 99 cents. In the app, dedicated onscreen speaker icons move as the actual speaker is rotated, while number boxes below each speaker icon continuously display the angle of the speaker. The number boxes also change color to let users know when their speaker is angled within industry recommendations, and when it is angled to the same degree as the other one in the pair (i.e. left and right in stereo systems; front left / front right, rear left / rear right and side left / side right in 7.1 surround systems). Detailed information screens provide a tutorial on speaker angling, as well as step-by-step instructions for using SpeakerAngle. The new Genelec SpeakerAngle app is a convenient and intuitive way to quickly set and confirm the angle of your speakers in your listening environment, stated Will Eggleston, Genelec USA Marketing Director. This is a perfect tool for home theater owners, recording engineers, system installers and anyone else working to get optimum sound from any loudspeaker system. The possibilities are exciting, and we look forward to audio enthusiasts everywhere putting it to good use. To use SpeakerAngle, simply select the desired mode of operation (Stereo or Surround), then place your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch on top of the speaker your want to angle. Set the speaker so that it is facing straight towards you, then touch the corresponding speaker icon so that it lights up. Next, touch the icon's number box to let SpeakerAngle know that the selected speaker is currently at zero-axis. Now physically rotate the speaker inwards (that is, towards the listening position). The selected speaker icon will move accordingly, and the number box below it will display the degree to which the speaker is angled. When the speaker is angled within the industry recommendation of 20 degrees to 45 degrees, the number box changes color, from red to green. When you touch the speaker icon once again (or select any other speaker icon), the number box changes color to orange, and "freezes" the currently displayed angle. Next, touch the paired speaker icon (for example, the right speaker in a stereo system if you have just angled the left speaker). Pick up your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and place it on top of that speaker, then touch the number box below the speaker icon. Physically rotate the speaker inwards until the number box changes color to yellow, indicating that this speaker is now angled to the same degree as the first one. To continue experimenting with different speaker angles, you can start from scratch at any time by pressing SpeakerAngle's RESET button.

Marquee Provides the Audio for the Innovative Wahaca Southbank Project

2024-12-11 06:53:26| World Wide Pro Audio Directory

Marquee Installations has recently completed the design and installation of the audio system for the Wahaca Southbank Mexican restaurant at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Designed by renowned architects Softroom, the innovative Wahaca Southbank Experiment is a new two-storey temporary installation, constructed from eight recycled shipping containers on the outdoor terrace of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre. The audio system for Wahaca Southbank is divided into four zones covering ground and first floors, walkways and outside areas. To provide simple but flexible control and power, Marquee chose the Cloud Electronics 46/50 4-zone integrated mixer/amp with the optional 100V line module. APart MASK4T and MASK6T loudspeakers were used throughout. We chose the MASK loudspeakers for their discreet styling, audio quality and price, which fitted a realistic budget for the temporary nature of the project, explained Stacey Tough of Marquee Installations. The MASK loudspeakers are also suitable for indoor and outdoor use, enabling us to maintain consistent quality throughout the venue. A media player provides the themed music playback for the system. Softroom developed the idea for using the shipping containers not only to remind visitors of the working history of the Southbank area of the river, but also practical reasons as their limited height allowed them to fit two floors in to the height of a single storey space. Contrasting with the heavy concrete backdrop of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, each container is painted in one of four vibrant colours ranging from deep turquoise to straw yellow, providing a colourful contrast to the restaurants grey surroundings. One of the top floor containers has been cantilevered out over the restaurants ramped entrance to create a canopy above the ground floor. On the upper level, this cantilevering enhances views from the upstairs bar out over the river. Inside the restaurant the front and back containers are connected via a glazed link, which houses the stairway connecting the two floors and floods the space with natural light. Each of the containers has its own character with a mix of bespoke, new and reclaimed furniture along with distinct lighting designs. Outside, there is a wide variety of areas in which to sit, from the booth seats, built in to the raised timber deck around the building, to the first floor terrace bar, to the street bar overlooking Queens Walk. Mexican artists have been commissioned to create a changing series of murals for the restaurant, which will decorate the walls and structures that surround it. With space for 130 diners, the Wahaca Southbank Experiment will remain open for at least 18 months, before moving to a new location.
